Happy Birds

Our Story

We're Not Your
Ordinary Farm.

Sassin Rustic Roost is a small, family-run homestead built on a love of birds, creativity, and living life a little differently. We're not a commercial farm — we're simply passionate about raising happy, healthy poultry and waterfowl while sharing a piece of our flock with others.

Our focus is exclusively on fowl. We offer farm-fresh eating eggs and select hatching eggs from our chickens, ducks, geese, and other feathered residents.

The Roost is also home to handcrafted décor, seasonal creations, and the occasional project inspired by farm life. We've recently welcomed two Nigerian Dwarf goats — Dolly and her daughter Jolene — to the homestead, with dreams of small-batch goat milk soaps and lotions on the horizon. Owned and operated by two women who balance full-time jobs, a growing flock, and more projects than we probably should — it's a labor of love.

New Arrivals

Meet the Goats

The Roost isn't just for the birds anymore. We've welcomed two Nigerian Dwarf goats to the homestead — Dolly and her daughter Jolene — and they've already stolen our hearts.

Dolly
The Mama

Dolly

Dolly is our tricolor Nigerian Dwarf mama — black, white, and tan with the sweetest pale eyes. She's currently our milking doe, and she's got the patience and personality to match. Dolly is the heart of our little goat herd and the reason we're dreaming up farm-fresh soaps and lotions.

The Daughter

Jolene

Jolene is Dolly's daughter — a light-brown beauty with a bold dark stripe down her face. She's full of personality, always climbing on something she shouldn't, and growing up fast alongside her mama. Nigerian Dwarves are known for being friendly and playful, and Jolene fits the bill perfectly.

From Goat Milk to Goat Milk Soap

Dolly is currently in milk, and we're working toward turning that rich, creamy Nigerian Dwarf milk into small-batch goat milk soaps and lotions. It's a project in the making — stay tuned as we grow this new corner of the Roost. Want to be the first to know when our first batch is ready? Drop us a line.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about egg pickups, visiting the farm, and getting our handcrafted decor to your door.

Egg Pickups

Browse our Eggs & Bakery page, add what you'd like to your cart, and choose pickup or meetup at checkout. We'll confirm your order and arrange a time for you to grab them.

Pickups are at our homestead near Columbia, NC. We share the exact address once your order is confirmed — we keep our location private for the safety of our birds and family.

For food safety, fresh eggs are local pickup and meetup only. We don't ship eggs — they're collected fresh daily and best enjoyed that way.

Very! Our hens and ducks lay daily, and eggs are collected, checked, and carted fresh each morning. You're getting eggs that were often laid the same day you pick them up.

Farm Visit Policies

Yes! Visits are by appointment only. Head to our Visit page, pick a preferred date, and tell us a little about your group. We'll confirm and share the details.

Farm visits are free, but we do ask that you book ahead so we can make sure someone's around to welcome you and the birds are comfortable with visitors.

Absolutely — kids love meeting the birds. Just let us know how many adults and children are coming when you book so we can plan accordingly.

For the safety and comfort of our birds, please leave dogs and other pets at home. We want to keep our flock stress-free and healthy.

Home Decor Shipping

Yes! Handcrafted items like woodburned signs, wreaths, and custom decor ship nationwide. You'll see shipping as an option at checkout for those items.

Most ready-made items ship within 3–5 business days. Custom and made-to-order pieces may take a bit longer — we'll give you an estimated timeline when you order.

Shipping is calculated based on the size and weight of your item and your location. You'll see the exact cost before you confirm your order.

We pack everything carefully, but if something arrives broken, reach out within 48 hours with a photo and we'll make it right — replacement or refund.
